A spot fire that erupted Monday on the south end of Corona burned less than a half-acre but put up a large smoke column visible for miles before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported just before 11 a.m. Monday in the area of Retreat Parkway and Knabe Road, less than a mile west of Interstate 15, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency initially sent multiple engine and hand crews, as well as a Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter, to the location after receiving reports of a smoke column over the Cleveland National Forest.
However, upon further investigation, the fire was confirmed to be near the Eagle Glen Golf Club, well inside Corona’s city limits, and municipal crews had stopped its forward rate of spread by the time county personnel arrived.
Firefighters from both agencies were working to strengthen containment lines as of 11:30 a.m.
There were no reports of property damage.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
