An apparent brake system issue caused a DHL cargo plane’s brakes to overheat while landing at Los Angeles International Airport.
The Kalitta Charters II aircraft, operating on behalf of DHL, experienced the apparent brake system issue upon landing Wednesday night, resulting in a brake overheat, according to a statement from DHL.
There were no injuries and all crew members were safe, the company stated.
The incident occurred around 11:10 p.m. Wednesday. Initial reports indicated the tires of the DHL aircraft appeared to catch fire upon landing at LAX.
The carrier was working Thursday morning to move the aircraft to allow for further inspection and assessment, according to DHL.
Video from the scene shows what appears to be the plane’s tires detached from the plane and Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responding.
