Flames ripped through a vacant Dollar Tree building in Huntington Park Thursday, sending thick smoke into the air, but there were no reports of any injuries.
Firefighters responded around 2:15 p.m. Thursday to the blaze in the 7100 block of South Pacific Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Flames tore through the roof of the building, forcing firefighters into a defensive posture, pouring water onto the structure from the exterior.
The fire first went to a second alarm, then to a third around 3 p.m., bringing more resources to the scene, fire officials said.
Crews appeared to be getting the upper hand on the blaze by late afternoon.
Authorities were investigating what caused the fire.
