Firefighters rushed to a call of a fire in an electric vault in Irwindale Monday but had to wait for Southern California Edison employees de-energized it.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:17 a.m. Monday to 4825 Rivergrade Road, between Brooks and Commerce drives and just west of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Keith Navarre told City News Service. They arrived at 12:26 a.m.

Firefighters stood by until the vault was de-energized, then had the flames out by about 2:30 a.m., Navarre said. No injuries were reported.

It was not clear whether any Edison customers lost power. There was no outage in the area noted on Edison’s web site.

Edison representatives were not available for comment.
