A brush fire broke out on the north end of Lancaster Thursday and quickly burned about 20 acres before it’s spread was halted.
The fire was reported about 12:10 p.m. Thursday in the area of West Avenue H and 15th Street West, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
First-arriving crews reported finding the blaze had burned about five acres of medium fuel, but it was estimated at 20 acres about 40 minutes later.
Two water-dropping helicopters assisted ground crews working to suppress and contain the blaze, which was dubbed the Horse Fire.
The fire was burning in mostly windless conditions, a fire department spokesman said.
Its forward progress was stopped about 1:10 p.m. and crews went into mop-up mode, he said.
No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.
