Mayor Eric Garcetti will visit three Asian countries in November as part of a 12-day trade mission.
Garcetti will travel to China, South Korea and Japan from Nov. 15-26 to attract businesses, drum up investment and promote tourism to Los Angeles.
China is Los Angeles’ top trading partner, the mayor’s office said. Trade between Los Angeles and China was $164.38 billion in 2013.
Japan is Los Angeles’s second biggest trading partner, with trade between the two places amounting to $48 billion. South Korea is next with $24 billion exchanged with Los Angeles.
The city is home to the largest Korean immigrant community in the United States, and has the most Japanese businesses of any other place in the country.
Chinese tourists numbered 339,000, and Japan sent 289,000 visitors in 2012.
Garcetti is back in Los Angeles today after visiting with White House cabinet member and ambassadors of the three Asian countries in Washington, D.C. The mayor also was out of the city on a personal trip, Thursday through Sunday, prior to his public events in the nation’s capital.
