The intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Hollywood was reopened Tuesday, about 24 hours after a water main ruptured and flooded the area.
The 6-inch water main ruptured about 4 p.m. Monday, ripping a hole in the intersection, closing the crossroads and flooding the immediate area.
After replacing a broken section, the line was repressurized and broke in another spot, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
The second leak was repaired, but a third leak was reported in the area early this afternoon.
Martin Adams, assistant senior general manager of the DWP, said the “integrity” of the 1920s-vintage line “continues to be in question.”
He said crews were able to isolate the section and get the street reopened.
“The DWP is preparing to replace the entire section of questionable water main in the very near future,” he said.
