Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Tuesday that $10,000 grants are being made available to the best projects proposed for improving the 15 streets included in his Great Streets Initiative.

Garcetti last year picked one street in each of the city’s 15 council districts to undergo upgrades aimed at making them more pedestrian friendly.

Garcetti, who is offering a total of $200,000 in grants, said each $10,000 grant can be increased to $20,000 through fundraising efforts on the site

More about the grant competition can be found at .

The deadline for submitting applications is June 2, with winning projects expected to be announced July 13.

The Great Streets Initiative, which also prioritizes existing projects in each area as well as proposing new ones, has so far resulted in new signage on a bridge over Gaffey Street in San Pedro and new bike lanes on Reseda Boulevard.
