Mayor Eric Garcetti Tuesday named Connie Llanos, a City Council spokeswoman and former journalist, as his press secretary.
Llanos, who starts her new job on July 22, is currently a communications director and strategic adviser for South Los Angeles area Councilman Curren D. Price Jr.
She has also advised on political campaigns and previously worked for Councilman Felipe Fuentes and then-Councilman Tony Cardenas.
Prior to entering politics, Llanos was a journalist covering planning, politics, development and education for the Los Angeles Daily News.
Garcetti said he chose Llanos for her “wealth of experience on both sides of media — as a journalist and as a communications strategist.”
“Her deep policy expertise on citywide issues like the minimum wage and experience fostering community in the 9th Council District ensure she will hit the ground running,” Garcetti said.
Llanos said she is “excited and honored to join Mayor Garcetti’s team as he continues to push forward a progressive agenda for our city, ensuring that all Angelenos have access to quality neighborhood services, good paying jobs and safe communities.”
