Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, will speak at the Executive Committee lunch Friday on the opening day of the three-day California Republican Party Fall Convention in Anaheim.

Friday’s schedule also includes a news conference by Senate candidate Tom Del Beccaro discussing his support for the taxpayer protection pledge; a welcome reception honoring Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who will leave the office next year because of term limits after 36 years; a dinner banquet honoring the party’s legislative leaders; and a panel discussion on an initiative that would make major changes to public employee pension benefits.

More than 1,000 party activists and leaders are expected at the Anaheim Marriott to attend the convention, whose theme is “Foundation for Success.”

The theme was chosen “as a reflection of the great work done over the last few years to get more Republicans elected to office and build a strong ground game that will help launch us into a successful 2016 election cycle,” California Republican Party communications director Kaitlyn MacGregor told City News Service.

Rep. Ed Royce, R-Fullerton, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will speak at Saturday’s lunch banquet.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton will speak at Saturday’s dinner banquet. Bolton was a late replacement for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who withdrew last week to focus his efforts on the early primary states, McGregor said.

Delegates will vote on various resolutions on Sunday.
