The Los Angeles City Council approved a $50,000 reward Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman who killed a 21-year-old man and wounded three people outside The Standard, a trendy downtown Los Angeles hotel.
Thomas Johnson was shot at about 2:20 a.m. Dec. 13 at the hotel at 550 S. Flower St., police said. Johnson died at a hospital.
The $50,000 reward motion introduced by Councilman Jose Huizar states that “detectives are continuing to investigate this crime, and believe a reward may compel members of the public to provide information on the identity of the person responsible for this crime.”
Police said before the shooting, two groups of males had been arguing outside of hotel. After the fight ended, one person pulled out a handgun and opened fire, injuring two men.
Johnson then ran through the lobby to the back of the hotel, only to be confronted in an adjacent parking lot by the gunman, who had run around the side of the hotel, police said.
The gunman fired several shots at Johnson, striking him and another victim, who also fired back with his own gun, according to police.
Police described the gunman as black, 5 feet 10 with black hair worn in corn rows. He has brown eyes and a black mustache. He wore a long black trench coat, black pants and black shoes.
