Tragedy struck Covina Tuesday afternoon when a bicyclist died in a collision with a Metrolink train.
Paramedics sent to the area of Front Street and Azusa Avenue at 1:38 p.m. pronounced the victim dead at the scene, said county fire Inspector David Dantic. There was no immediate word of why the man on the bicycle was close enough to the train to be involved in the incident. It wasn’t clear if the train hit the man on the bicycle, or if the victim rode too near the train.
The bicyclist was a man, but his name and age were not immediately released, said Sgt. Gregg Peterson of the Covina Police Department.
According to Metrolink, the accident involved train 310, which was bound for San Bernardino.
