The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to offer $125 in financial assistance to low-income rabbit owners to cover the full cost of their pets’ sterilization surgeries.
The council action adds rabbit sterilizations to a low-income voucher program that currently only covers spay and neuter procedures for dogs and cats.
The voucher for dogs — currently set at $70 — was also increased today to $125 to match the rising cost of such procedures. The voucher for cat surgeries, which city officials say are relatively cheaper, was kept at $70.
General discount vouchers offered to encourage sterilizations were also increased today from $30 to $50 for dogs and rabbits.
