Businessman Darrell Park‘s lead in the race for the second spot in the runoff election for the Fifth District seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors grew yet again Wednesday.

Park has a 2,696-vote lead over Sen. Bob Huff, R-San Dimas, according to the update of the count of provisional and vote-by-mail ballots released today by the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

Park held a 2,237-vote lead entering today’s count. He had a 417-vote lead over Huff in the semiofficial ballot count released June 8, the morning after the June 7 primary election.

According to the latest tally, Park has 54,829 votes, 15.48 percent, to 52,133 for Huff, 14.72 percent.

Kathryn Barger, chief deputy to outgoing Supervisor Michael Antonovich, leads the eight-candidate field with 105,012 votes, 29.66 percent.

Because no candidate received a majority in the June 7 primary, the top two finishers will meet in a runoff in the Nov. 8 general election.

Roughly 62,000 provisional and damaged ballots remain to be counted countywide, according to Brenda Duran of the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. The number of ballots remaining to be counted from the Fifth District was not available.

The next updated count is scheduled to be released Friday, when all ballots are expected to be tallied, Duran said.
