The Los Angeles City Council agreed Wednesday to pay $3 million to settle a lawsuit filed by a rabbi who was injured in 2010 while riding his bicycle in Van Nuys.

Rabbi Shelaim Furst was riding his bicycle along Victory Boulevard toward Balboa Park on Aug. 25, 2010 when he was hit from behind by a car.

Furst, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, sued the city alleging that the street was in poor condition and that misleading bicycle route signs were left up after the street was no longer being designated for bicycles.
