Thursday is the filing deadline for the 34th Congressional District special election, with 27 potential candidates having been issued papers to seek the seat vacated by Xavier Becerra to become California’s attorney general.
Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez and former Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education member Yolie Flores, a fellow Democrat, are among 16 potential candidates to have filed to run, according to information from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
The field of candidates is required by state law to be announced by Wednesday for the April 4 special election.
