Metro light rail service in the Staples Center and downtown areas was expected to be back on track by 5 p.m. Sunday.
Maintenance work on the tracks was underway all weekend, forcing the use of free shuttle buses at the downtown end of the rail lines to Santa Monica and Long Beach.
“We finished up early, and the trains should all be on schedule by 5 o’clock tonight,” Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo said at 3:30 p.m.
The Blue Line is reportedly the nation’s busiest light rail line, and it shares twin tracks from the underground station at Seventh at Figueroa streets south down Flower Street to a junction at Washington Street.
