A swarm of bees next to the downtown Riverside Hall of Justice Wednesday prompted firefighters to rope off the area for public safety.

The swarm was spotted about 11 a.m. near the courthouse at 4100 Main St.

According to the Riverside Fire Department, a crew was sent to the location and spotted the agitated bees in vegetation.

Division Chief Dave Bakas told City News Service that the crew cordoned off the area to prevent passers-by from coming into contact with the bees.

Personnel from the Northwest Mosquito & Vector Control District were summoned to remove the hive.
