The City Council Friday honored City Clerk Holly Wolcott to mark her retirement and a career spanning 37 years at City Hall.
Wolcott started her career with the city in November 1987 as a management assistant in the City Clerk’s Office, later serving as a management analyst for the fire, aging and police departments.
From 2000 to 2004, she served as chief legislative analyst for the council’s public safety committee. She returned to the City Clerk’s Office as chief management analyst, overseeing the administrative services division, and subsequently as the executive officer in 2008.
In 2013, Wolcott was appointed as interim City Clerk, and formally appointed to the position in 2014 by then-Mayor Eric Garcetti.
During this time, she developed the City Clerk’s first strategic five-year plan, supervised municipal, special and neighborhood council elections, managed the city’s business improvement district program and preserved L.A.’s history through records management and archives.
“Holly’s love of dogs and her passion for the theatre have been enduring hallmarks of her personal life, as she has sung, danced, acted, directed and produced in countless musical theatre productions since 1992, and she looks forward to retiring alongside Leonard Figueroa, the love of her life, with plans to enjoy their text chapter together on the central coast of California,” Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez said during the ceremony.
Several council members shared memories of Wolcott and thanked her for her service.
“I really want to thank my staff. I want to thank each one of you, each of the mayors that I work for, anybody who’s given me both the bad or good times because those challenges have brought me here today,” Wolcott said.
“My final thoughts that I’m going to leave you with … do be truthful to yourselves and to your constituents,” she added.
On Jan. 14, City Council members approved a resolution recognizing Wolcott and her many years of service.
