The comic re-boot “Dumb and Dumber To” shot to the top of the North American box office in its debut weekend, knocking a Disney animated adventure into second place, according to final figures released Monday.
The Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels sequel earned $36.1 million in its opening weekend, according to box-office tracker Rentrak.
Disney’s “Big Hero 6” was a close second at $34.7 million, while the sci-fi epic “Interstellar” collected $28.3 million.
“Beyond the Lights” placed fourth with $6.2 million, while Ben Affleck’s “Gone Girl” took fifth with $4.6 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “St. Vincent” ($3.8 million); “Fury” ($3.7 million); “Ouija” ($3 million); “Nightcrawler” ($2.9 million); and “Birdman” ($2.5 million).
