Detectives investigating the murder-suicide deaths of an aspiring rap artist and his wife — an actress and dancer — have spoken with boxer Floyd Mayweather regarding the case, but details of that conversation “will remain confidential,” police said Thursday.
The bodies of Earl Hayes, 34, and Stephanie Moseley, 30, were found inside an apartment at the Palazzo complex on the 300 block of Hauser Boulevard about 7:30 a.m. Monday, police said. Investigators have determined that Hayes shot and killed his wife before taking his own life, police said.
The celebrity news website TMZ.com reported Hayes was a friend of Mayweather. Other outlets reported Hayes recorded a song for the Mayweather documentary “30 Days in May”.
“Floyd confirmed the story first reported on TMZ … that he was on FaceTime Monday morning with Hayes when the rapper walked away from the phone, into the bathroom and pumped multiple bullets into his wife, Stephanie Moseley,” TMZ reported.
“Floyd told detectives after Hayes shot his wife, he came back to the phone and continued talking with Floyd,” TMZ reported. “The boxer says Hayes said he was going to shoot himself and Mayweather pleaded with him … to no avail.
“As for what happened before shots rang out … Mayweather acknowledged he was talking with Hayes about Stephanie’s infidelity, but denies riling the rapper up,” TMZ reported.
Police today said investigators spoke with Mayweather on Wednesday as part of their probe of the deaths.
“Mr. Mayweather was cooperative with investigators,” police said in a statement. “However, the information obtained from this interview, as well as those with other people involved in the investigation, will remain confidential.”
Moseley is Canadian and moved to Los Angeles from her birthplace of Vancouver in 2004. Moseley’s internet movie database site said she appeared in a comedy, “The Best Thanksgiving Ever,” due for release next year, and appeared throughout this year in the VH1 reality series “Hit the Floor.”
The couple were married in 2008.
