“Big Hero 6” won awards in all five categories it was nominated in while “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” won the top movie award at Wednesday night’s 13th annual Visual Effects Society Awards at The Beverly Hilton.

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” received the award for outstanding effects in an effects-driven live action film, winning in a field that also included “Interstellar,” “The Hobbit,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Maleficent” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

“Big Hero 6” won for outstanding animation in an animated featured motion picture; outstanding performance of an animated character in an animated featured motion picture; outstanding created environment in an animated featured motion picture; outstanding models in any motion media project; and outstanding effects simulations in an animated featured motion picture.

“Birdman” won for outstanding supporting visual effects in a live- action film are “Birdman.”

During the ceremony, director J.J. Abrams was presented with the society’s Visionary Award by “Star Trek: Into Darkness” cast member Zoe Saldana. The organization had planned to present Ridley Scott with a lifetime achievement award, but the presentation was postponed due to a change in Scott’s production schedule.
