“San Andreas” destroyed the competition at the North American box office to debut in first place in theaters, according to final figures released Monday.

The earthquake disaster thriller earned $54.6 million in its opening weekend to top the box office, according to Rentrak. The film’s closest challenger was “Pitch Perfect 2,” which collected $14.8 million to push its three-week total to $147.5 million.

Disney’s “Tomorrowland” fantasy was a close third with $14.3 million, followed by “Mad Max: Fury Road,” with $14.2 million.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” took fifth place with $11.4 million. The film has earned more than $427.5 million in its five weeks of release.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Aloha” ($9.7 million); “Poltergeist” ($8 million); “Far from the Madding Crowd” ($1.5 million); “Hot Pursuit” ($1.4 million); and “Home” ($1.2 million).
