After 10 years of marriage, Oscar-winner Ben Affleck and actress Jennifer Garner announced Tuesday they are splitting up.
The couple have three children — Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the couple said in a statement to People magazine and TMZ. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
Affleck, 42, and Garner, 43, met on the set of the 2003 superhero film “Daredevil.”
The couple have not filed divorce papers. TMZ reported that they are trying to work out financial and custody issues first.
Affleck shared a best-picture Oscar for “Argo,” a film he also directed. He also shared an original screenplay Oscar with Matt Damon for “Good Will Hunting.”
