Adam Sandler and “Pixels” – derided by most critics – couldn’t even overcome a tiny insect.
“Ant-Man” squeezed out a narrow victory at the North American box office this weekend to finish first with film fans for the second week in a row, according to final figures released Monday.
Disney’s tiny superhero kept its grip on the top spot by collecting $24.9 million between Friday and Sunday, according to Rentrak. That was good enough to beat Adam Sandler’s videogame-themed action-comedy “Pixels,” which debuted in second place with $24 million.
Universal’s smash hit “Minions” collected another $22.9 million over the weekend to push its three-week domestic take to $262.4 million.
Amy Schumer’s relationship comedy “Trainwreck” placed fourth with $17.3 million, while the boxing drama “Southpaw” opened in fifth place with $16.7 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Paper Towns”($12.6 million); “Inside Out” ($7.4 million); “Jurassic World” ($7.2 million); “Mr. Holmes ($2.9 million); and “Terminator Genisys” ($2.4 million).
