One of Hollywood’s most famous power couples called it quits Tuesday, ending an often-fiery relationship that has spanned decades on television and film.

In a blockbuster joint statement, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy announced they are splitting up.

“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship,” according to Kermit and Piggy. “We will continue to work together on television … and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al.

“This is our only comment on this private matter — unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding.”

The announcement came just weeks before the return of “The Muppets” to network television. Jim Henson’s famed creations will star in an ABC series featuring Kermit and company producing a late-night talk show starring Miss Piggy. The series premieres Sept. 22.
