With the blessing of Lucille Ball’s children, Cate Blanchett will star as the red-headed sitcom star in a movie focusing on Lucy’s 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz.

Aaron Sorkin may write the script about Ball and Arnaz, the Cuban bandleader who created the legendary sitcom “I Love Lucy” in 1951. Nobody has been cast yet as Desi. Nor has a director been chosen.
Ball died in 1989 and Arnaz, whom she divorced in 1960, passed away in 1986.
Blanchett won Oscars for “The Aviator” and “Blue Jasmine.”
Social media reaction was swift.

Cate Blanchett doesn’t work for me as Lucille Ball. Only Deborah Messing can pull a convincing Lucy off pic.twitter.com/S3xNLct21C

@willmckinley Cate Blanchett already tackled Hepburn – don’t know if she should press her luck with Lucy …

Ha! Cate Blanchett is fabulous choice for Lucy though. “I Love Lucy” remains one of my favorite series. https://t.co/ZhmJh2R6N0
