A pair of debut films dominated business at North American theaters over the weekend, with the animated “Hotel Transylvania 2” leading the way, according to final figures released Monday.

The film, featuring the voice of Adam Sandler, collected $48.5 million between Friday and Monday to lead the box office, according to Rentrak.

That was well ahead of another debut, “The Intern,” which opened in second place with $17.7 million.

“Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” slipped to third place, earning $14.3 million over the weekend and giving it a two-week total of $51.9 million.

The mountain-climbing thriller “Everest” placed fourth with $13.2 million, followed by Johnny Depp’s mobster biopic “Black Mass,” which earned $11 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “The Visit” ($6.7 million); “The Perfect Guy” ($4.8 million); “War Room” ($4.2 million); “The Green Inferno” ($3.5 million); and ” Sicario” ($1.7 million).
