
The Matt Damon space odyssey “The Martian” continued to rule the nation’s theaters over the weekend, edging out the Halloween-themed “Goosebumps,” according to final figures released Monday.
“The Martian” earned $15.7 million between Friday and Sunday to remain the top dog at the North American box office, according to Rentrak. The film has earned $166.2 million in its four weeks of release.
“Goosebumps,” starring Jack Black,” earned $15.5 million over the weekend to land in second place, followed by Steven Spielberg’s political drama “Bridge of Spies,” which earned $11.4 million.
Vin Diesel’s action fantasy “The Last Witch Hunter” debuted in fourth place with $10.8 million, followed by another Halloween-season tale, the animated “Hotel Transylvania 2,” which earned $8.9 million.
Rounding out the top 10 movies of the weekend were “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” ($8.1 million); “Steve Jobs” ($7.1 million); “Crimson Peak” ($5.7 million); “The Intern” ($3.8 million); and “Sicario” ($2.8 million).
