
With a pair of debut films being met with yawns by moviegoers, Matt Damon’s “The Martian” remained atop the North American box office over the weekend, according to final figures released Monday.
“The Martian” collected $11.7 million between Friday and Sunday to push the film’s five-week take to $183.1 million, according to Rentrak.
“Goosebumps” took second place with $9.9 million, followed by Steven Spielberg’s drama “Bridge of Spies,” with $8.4 million.
The animated “Hotel Transylvania 2” collected $5.9 million over the weekend to increase its six-week haul to $156 million. Vin Diesel’s “The Last Witch Hunter” took fifth place with $5.2 million
Bradley Cooper’s cooking-oriented film “Burnt” debuted in sixth place with $5 million, while Sandra Bullock’s political romp “Our Brand is Crisis” opened in a dismal eighth place with $3.2 million, just behind the horror film “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension,” which earned $3.4 million.
“Crimson Peak” ($3.1 million) and “Steve Jobs” ($2.7 million) rounded out the top 10 films of the weekend.
