The list of films in contention for the visual effects Oscar has been winnowed to 10, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday.

The shortlist was determined by the executive committee of the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch. All members of the branch will now have the chance to view 10-minute excerpts of each film and then nominate five films for the Oscar.

The films still in the running are:

— “Ant-Man”;

— “Avengers: Age of Ultron”;

— “Ex Machina”;

— “Jurassic World”;

— “Mad Max: Fury Road”;

— “The Martian”;

— “The Revenant”;

— “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”;

— “Tomorrowland”; and

— “The Walk.”

Nominations for the 88th Academy Awards will be announced Jan. 14.
