Kate McKinnon, best known for her work on “Saturday Night Live,” and Kumail Nanjiani of “Silicon Valley” will co-host the 2016 Film Independent Spirit Awards, it was announced Thursday.
“They are two of the smartest, funniest human beings on the planet and I can’t wait to see what creative mayhem they bring to the show in February,” said Josh Welsh, president of Film Independent.
McKinnon received Emmy nominations the past two years for outstanding supporting actress for her work on “Saturday Night Live.” She will also appear in the upcoming reboot of “Ghostbusters,” and lends her voice to the animated “Angry Birds” movie.
Nanjiani stars as Dinesh on the HBO series “Silicon Valley,” and appeared in films including “Sex Tape,” “The Five-Year Engagement” and “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.”
The Spirit Awards will be presented Feb. 27 in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica.
