
Panda power proved to be irresistible at the North American box office as “King Fu Panda 3” opened as the runaway favorite.
The sequel was estimated to be on track to sell $41 million in tickets, according to estimates from the studio, Fox on Sunday.

It far outdistanced the rest of the pack. “The Revevant,” in its sixth week of exhibition, was in second place with an estimated $12.4 million in sales.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was third, with a $10.8 million weekend, according to studio estimates tallied by Rentrak.
And “The Finest Hours” opened in fourth place, at $10.3 million.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies in the United States this weekend were “Ride Along 2” ($8.3 million), “The Boy” ($7.9 million), “Dirty Grandpa” ($7.6 million), “The 5th Wave” ($7 million), “Fifty Shades of Black” ($6.2 million) and “13 Hours: The Secret” ($6 million).
