Ryan Reynolds, whose previous turn as a superhero was a box-office bust, rebounded nicely over the long holiday weekend, with his title role in “Deadpool” exceeding all expectations and dominating North American theaters, according to final figures released Tuesday.

“Deadpool” debuted with $152.2 million between Friday and Monday’s Presidents Day holiday, according to comScore. The film sped past an animated superhero of sorts, “Kung Fu Panda 3,” which earned $25.9 million to push its three-week take to $25.9 million.

The comedy “How to be Single” opened in third place with $19.9 million, while another new film, the comic sequel “Zoolander 2,” debuted in fourth with $15.9 million.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” continued to pad its gaudy earnings, collecting another $7.6 million to give it a nine-week haul of $916.3 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the holiday weekend were “The Revenant” ($7.5 million), “Hail, Caesar” ($7.4 million), “The Choice” ($5.8 million), “Ride Along 2” ($5.1 million) and “The Boy” ($3.6 million).
