Famed filmmaker and activist Spike Lee is getting blowback as well as cheers for endorsing democratic socialist Bernie Sanders.
The “Do the Right Thing” director went all in with this radio spot ahead of Saturday’s Democratic primary in South Carolina.
As The New York Times noted: “Wake up. Wake up, South Carolina!” Mr. Lee begins – nodding to the opening of his 1989 film “Do the Right Thing” – in a 60-second commercial released on Tuesday in the state, where the Democratic presidential primary is on Saturday. Mr. Lee, who has spent his career making films about race and discrimination, may help Mr. Sanders as he struggles to cut into Hillary Clinton’s support from black voters.
“I know that you know the system is rigged,” Lee says. “For too long we have given our vote to corporate puppets.”
But Lee can’t pull the strings of everyone on social media:

Spike Lee endorsed Bernie Sanders; Spike should send him almost all of his money before Bernie confiscates it if he’s elected president.

“That’s why I am officially endorsing my main man Bernie Sanders.” — Spike Lee (I thought Jordan was his main man!)
