For 18 1/2 minutes Sunday, John Oliver took “a serious proposal by a serious presidential candidate seriously” — Donald Trump’s 1,000-mile border wall with Mexico.

Then for 18 1/2 minutes, the host of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” demolishes every Trump argument for the wall, its construction prospects and costs.

Trump has placed the price of the wall anywhere from $4 billion to $12 billion, Oliver showed through clips.

But Oliver finds that it will actually cost $25 billion, not counting maintenance costs and dealing with border laws.

Oliver proposed that instead the money be spent on waffle irons for every American — which “will cost less and do nearly as much to keep out immigrants and drugs, won’t harm our relationship with our third-largest trading partner. If it is racist, it’s only toward Belgians.

“So come on, America. Let’s ask ourselves: What kind of country do we want to wake up to? One that spends billions on an impossible, impractical symbol of fear, or one that smells like breakfast? Exactly.”
