
Disney’s animated “Zootopia” continued to rule the box office jungle over the weekend, besting the latest release in the “Divergent” film series, according to final figures released Monday.
“Zootopia” collected $37.2 million between Friday and Sunday to retain the top spot at North American theaters, according to comScore. “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” opened in second place with $29 million.
Another debut film, the spiritual “Miracles from Heaven,” earned $14.8 million to open in third place.
The mysterious “10 Cloverfield Lane” thriller collected $12.5 million over the weekend, while the irreverent superhero film “Deadpool” earned $8 million to place fifth. “Deadpool” has earned $340.9 million in its six weeks of release.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “London Has Fallen” ($6.8 million); “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” ($2.8 million); “The Perfect Match” ($2 million); “The Brothers Grimsby” ($1.4 million); and “The Revenant” ($1.2 million).
