Called “the Internet’s highest honor,” Webbys are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
Oliver’s site, timed to capitalize on the leap second of June 30, 2015, goes up against The Onion, ClickHole, Funny or Die and Cracked.
The 20th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 13,000 entries from nearly all 50 states and 65 countries worldwide, the site said.
The public also chooses The Webby People’s Voice Winners by casting ballots for their favorite nominees during the annual voting period. Winners will be named April 26.
Among Southland sites in the Webby hunt is NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory based at Pasadena’s Caltech, a finalist in the government category for Experience Curiosity. JPL won a Webby in 2015 as well.
