James Cameron of “Titanic” fame hopes social media reaction won’t doom his promised “Avatar” franchise.
“The filmmaker discussed the many ways in which he is expanding the world — a theme park with Disney in in the works, and his company has signed a deal with Dark Horse Comics for graphic novel spin-offs — but the movies themselves are obviously the biggest component.
“The Avatar sequels have been a moving target since he first announced he was working on them, and Cameron has since assembled what amounts to a screenwriting superteam to break the story for the various films. As it stands, the second film in the series will be coming out in the holiday season of 2018, with the subsequent films arriving in 2020, 2022, and 2023.”
Early reaction indicates Cameron has work to do:
Pretty sickening that Obama is going to leave his successors with all these Avatar sequels.

Just heard that there are going to be five Avatar films. I hope that at least two of them are shared universe Titanic films.

If Avatar wasn’t the first BIG 3D film, there is NO WAY it would have made that much money. If it came out now everyone would laugh at it

Who should stop making sequels first: Avatar or Sharknado?
— Ryan Martin (@ryanmartin) April 14, 2016
Four Avatar sequels is excessive. Rather see other original work from Cameron. It was pretty but Ferngully the Last Rainforest did it better

Imagine being a secret Avatar fanboy on Twitter right now, sitting there panicking because everyone is dissing your favorite movie.
