
A battle between Captain America and Iron Man dominated the North American box office over the weekend, as the latest big- screen superhero adventure opened with $179.1 million, according to final figures released Monday.
“Captain America: Civil War” scored the third-highest May opening weekend in history, behind only “The Avengers” in 2012 and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in 2015, according to comScore.
Another Disney film, “The Jungle Book,” finished in second place over the weekend with $24.5 million, followed by “Mother’s Day” with $11.1 million.
“The Huntsman: Winter’s War” took fourth place with $3.9 million, while the comedy “Keanu” placed fifth with $3.3 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Zootopia” ($3.2 million); “Barbershop: The Next Cut” ($2.8 million); “The Boss” ($1.9 million); “Ratchet And Clank” ($1.5 million); and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice” ($1 million).
