
“The Angry Birds Movie” smashed the competition at the North American box office over the weekend, debuting in first place and knocking a superhero feud out of the top spot, according to final figures released Monday.
“Angry Birds” opened with $38.2 million to rule the box office, according to comScore. The blockbuster “Captain America: Civil War” slipped to second place with $32.9 million, but the film has earned a whopping $347.2 million in its three weeks of release.
The comedy sequel “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising,” opened in third place with $21.8 million, followed by another debut, “The Nice Guys,” which earned $11.2 million between Friday and Sunday.
Disney’s live-action “The Jungle Book” continued to attract moviegoers, earning $10.9 million and pushing its six-week haul to $327.4 million.
Rounding out the 10 most popular films were “Money Monster” ($7 million); “The Darkness” ($2.3 million); “Zootopia” ($1.7 million); “Huntsman: Winter’s War” ($1.2 million); and “Mother’s Day” ($1.1 million).
