Saying that she was “filled with shame,” actress Selma Blair has apologized for an incident that occurred on a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles and landed her in a hospital.

“I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his Dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret,” the actress said in a statement to Vanity Fair. The incident was first reported Tuesday by the celebrity news website TMZ.com.

Officials were notified Monday of “an ill passenger arriving (at LAX) on a flight from Cancun, Mexico,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement reported by the Los Angeles Times. “The aircraft was met by CBP officers and the passenger was turned over to the Los Angeles Fire Department for transport to a local hospital.”

TMZ quoted sources as saying the 43-year-old Blair, traveling in first class and drinking wine, suddenly started crying, saying, “He burns my private parts. He won’t let me eat or drink,” and continuing, “He beats me. He’s going to kill me.”

Blair’s 4-year-old son, Arthur Saint, was on the flight with Blair and her ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick, the boy’s father.

In her statement, Blair apologized profusely to the passengers and crew.
