The Secret Life Of Pets” enjoyed a “spectacular” debut this summer weekend, with an estimated $103.2 million in ticket sales.

The Universal picture is the sixth-highest opening total for an animated movie ever, according to movie industry analysts at comScore.

“The Legend Of Tarzan” was second place this weekend, with $20.6 million in the till this weekend. Over 10 days of exhibitions, it has $81.4 million in North American ticket sales.

“Finding Dory” was third, with $20.4 million in weekend sales and $422.6 million in domestic sales over 24 days.

The ribald “Mike And Dave Need Wedding dates” debuted in fourth place, with $16.6 million in opening weekend sales.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this week, as estimated by the studios, were “The Purge: Election” ($11.7 million), “Central Intelligence” ($8.1 million), “Independence Day: Resurgence” ($7.7 million), “The BFG” ($7.6 million), “The Shallows” ($4.8 million) and “Sultan” (a foreign- language film opening at $2.2 million).
