Joining Sarah Silverman as a critic of the Bernie-or-Bust camp is “Late Night” host Seth Meyers. But his Wednesday appeal for Sanders fans to pack it in unleashed harsh criticism.

He said: “This country is about 48 percent crazy uncles. . . and it is about to be Thanksgiving all day every day. And please don’t say pass the gravy, because if he is elected, no one gets gravy. Trump gets ALL the gravy.
“We’ve all experienced disappointment. I couldn’t get Rihanna to go out with me, but I don’t stand in the kitchen and boo my wife.
“The house is on fire. Stop crying because we’re not putting it out with your hose. I don’t know which class you ditched to go to those Bernie rallies, but I have a feeling it was history.”
As comments below illustrate, the B-or-B cohort wasn’t buying Meyers.
It got so bad that one Facebook user sought to intervene:
Fatma Reda wrote that Sanders diehards “need to grieve what they perceive as death of their dream. Especially they’re mostly young & full of life. We, older ones need to comfort them, affirm the appropriateness of their sense of loss, and allow them to decide what’s to be done next, all while keeping reality real.”
Addressing sentiments like Silverman’s “You’re being ridiculous” remark at the convention, Reda said: “Trying to ‘whip them into shape’ or force them to abandon their lofty ideals in favor of ugly pragmatism will delay the process of growth, and further alienate them. Feminist therapists say: ‘feelings first, resolutions next.'”
