Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will star in a remake of the movie classic “A Star is Born,” with Cooper making his directorial debut on the project, Warner Bros. Pictures announced Tuesday.
The film will mark the first leading role for Lady Gaga, who will also compose and perform music for the movie.
“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director,” said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros. “We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home — Warner Bros. — and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of ‘A Star is Born.”‘
A release date for the film was not immediately provided.

The original “A Star is Born” — the story of an up-and-coming actress who falls for an established star whose career is in decline — starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March in 1937. Judy Garland and James Mason starred in a remake in 1954, while Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand took over the starring roles in a 1976 version.
Jon Peters, who co-produced the 1976 film with Streisand, will also serve as a co-producer on the new version.
