Police hope security video will help them identify and find the suspect who fatally shot a well-known rapper at a pool party in Granada Hills.
Justin Lishey, 30, who was professionally known as Kid Cali or Cali OSo, was shot about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 12400 block of Longacre Avenue. The party had been heavily promoted on social media and through fliers. Two other men in their 20s were wounded and are expected to survive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, which has not released a description of the suspect.
The assailant fled into the surrounding area, an upscale section of hillside homes overlooking the San Fernando Valley.
LAPD Deputy Chief Bob Green told the Los Angeles Times that the presence of numerous security cameras on the mansion grounds will aid the investigation.
“There is plenty of video,” Green said. “There are witnesses, and we are hoping they will come forward with information. We believe this is (a) solvable homicide.”
Although the party was attended by hundreds, many witnesses fled the mansion after the shots were fired and before police arrived.
Singer Chris Brown reacted to Lishey’s death by posting “RIP Kid Cali” on Twitter, while Snoop Dogg tweeted, “Rest well young g.”
