Tyler Perry went back to the Madea gold vein this weekend, and struck box office riches to the tune of $27.6 million.
“Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween” opened in the number one position and proved “once again that Tyler Perry is a box office force to be reckoned with,” said Paul Dergarabedian, movie analyst at comScore.

The action sequel “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” survived mixed reviews to open in second place, with $23 million in estimated weekend sales in the United States and Canada. Its opening weekend was significantly higher than the first Reacher flick, also starring Tom Cruise, which premiered with a $15.2 million opener in 2012.
Another spooky sequel, “Ouija: Origin Of Evil,” debuted in third place, with $14 million in sales.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this week, as estimated by the studios, were “The Accountant” ($14 million), “The Girl On The Train” ($7.3 million), “Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children” ($6 million), “Keeping Up With the Joneses” (premiering with $5.6 million), “Kevin Hart: What Now?” ($4.1 million), “Storks” ($4 million) and “Deepwater Horizon” ($3.6 million).
