Psychiatric experts were apparently evaluating Kanye West on Tuesday after the controversial rapper was hospitalized and he canceled the remainder of his concert tour.
West had been slated to perform Tuesday in Fresno and Wednesday in Anaheim. He puzzled and angered fans Sunday when he canceled a concert at the Forum in Inglewood with only about three hours notice.
No reason was given for the cancellation of the rest of the Saint Pablo tour, with concert promoter Live Nation saying only that tickets “will be fully refunded at point of purchase.” West had been scheduled to perform at Honda Center in Anaheim on Wednesday, and in Fresno on Tuesday.
Hours after his concerts were canceled, multiple media reports surfaced that West had been hospitalized at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, with an entertainment website reporting that he was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation after being examined for exhaustion.
According to a number of media reports, Los Angeles police responded to a medical welfare call involving West around 1:20 p.m. Monday, and the singer was ultimately taken by ambulance to a hospital for West’s “own health and safety.”
Los Angeles police, without identifying West, told City News Service they responded to a disturbance call at 1:20 p.m. in the 900 block of North Laurel Avenue, near the Fairfax District, but when officers arrived, it turned out to be a medical call, and paramedics were summoned.
The patient was “medically stable” when taken to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey, who also did not identify that person as West.
West had been scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Forum, but that concert was called off at about 5 p.m. Some concertgoers did not learn of the cancellation until they showed up at the Inglewood arena.
The concert was supposed to be a makeup for West leaving early from a Nov. 3 appearance at the Forum due to what he called vocal issues.
One day earlier, the rapper — who is married to reality television personality Kim Kardashian — walked off stage four songs into a concert in Sacramento, a show in which he took the stage about 90 minutes late.
At that concert, West went into a tirade in which he railed against Beyonce, Jay Z, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the radio industry and the media, before exiting the stage.
During a San Jose appearance on Thursday, West elicited boos when he told the crowd in a well-publicized, profanity-laced dialogue that he didn’t vote in the presidential election, but he would have voted for Donald J. Trump.
