
Oscar winner Denzel Washington will be named Motion Picture Showman of the Year at the 54th Annual International Cinematographers Guild Publicists Awards held Feb. 24 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Washington received his first Academy Award in 1989 for the historical war drama “Glory” and his second for his portrayal of the corrupt cop in 2001’s”Training Day.”
He won a Tony Award for his stage performance in “Fences” in 2010.
He currently is getting Oscar mention for his role in the film version of “Fences,” which debuted on Christmas Day.
“Denzel continues to excel as a major creative force in filmmaking while also recognizing the key role that publicity and promotion play in the success of filmmaking,” guild Awards Committee Chairman Henri Bollinger said. “His understanding of what it takes to attract movie audiences supports his exceptional talents as an actor and filmmaker.”
