Animated films will be in the spotlight Saturday during the presentation of the 44th annual Annie Awards, with box office hits “Finding Dory,” “Moana” and “Kung Fu Panda 3” among those competing for best animated feature film.

Also vying for the top award will be “Kubo and the Two Strings” and “Zootopia.”

The Annie Award list differs slightly from the recently announced Oscar nominations, which did not include “Finding Dory” or “Kung Fu Panda 3.” The Oscars instead included “My Life as a Zucchini” and “The Red Turtle.”

Those two films landed on the Annie nominations list in a new category — best independent animated feature. They will compete with “Long Way North,” “Miss Hokusai” and “Your Name.”

Presented by the International Animated Film Society, the Annie Awards will be bestowed in a ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

During the ceremony, the society will bestow its coveted Winsor McCay awards on legendary animator Dale Baer, anime director Mamoru Oshii and “independent animation champion” Caroline Leaf. The society will also present special honors to Google Spotlight’s Virtual Reality Platform for technical advancements; to the documentary “Life, Animated”; and to Bill and Sue Kroyer for their long-time support and influence in the animation community.
